Apartment Manager Adventures

Recently, I was woken up on a Saturday morning at 5:00 AM to someone using the door buzzer in the entryway. The buzzer is very loud and whenever I am woken by it, it always makes my heart race. I jumped out of bed and quickly turned on the TV to check the security camera. No one was there..

My first thought was, oh well, no one is there, go back to bed. I condisdered it for a moment, but then decided that I better go check the building to make sure everything is okay.

I got dressed, grabbed my trusty maglight flashlight (always a good thing in case you need to use it for protection) and started checking the building to see if someone was hanging around in the common areas.

First place I checked was the basement. Its usually always the first place I check. Nothing there. So I started making my way up the different floors of the building. And when I reached the third floor, I found the person that had buzzed my apartment.

One day, while my wife and I were on our way out the door to go shopping, I heard a faint high pitch noise coming from inside the building. I didn’t think much of the noise at the time, but after a few hours of shopping, I noticed the noise was still there when we returned home. 

After unpacking our groceries, I walked through the building to investigate the noise. After a few brief minutes, I discovered which apartment the noise was coming from. Our apartment is on the first floor, and the one making the noise was all the way up on the third floor. I listened at the door and could hear the high pitch noise ringing loud. I could also hear a strange popping noise.

I knocked on the door… - No answer. I knocked louder… -Again, no answer. I then pounded the door so hard it felt like I was going to knock it off its hinges. I heard someone stirring inside. Now I’ve seen a lot of weird and unexpected things being an apartment manager, but I could not have guessed what I was about to see.

When I was younger we had a balcony where my brother and I would store our bikes and skateboards and toys. One morning my mom heard some noise on the balcony and opened the curtain to find a man using a hack saw on the chains that had our bikes locked up to the balcony! This man was stealing our bikes!!!! My mom chased him off, but I have never forgotten what happened.
Being on site apartment managers of the building, we try to be alert and pay attention to unusual noises. Early one morning, I heard a ruckus on our balcony and those memories came flooding back. I just knew there was going to be someone out there stealing all of our snow removal tools and yard tools!

So I stormed to the balcony fuming mad and ripped back the curtain ready to catch the thief red handed (I intended to give him a good scare by yelling at him) when all the sudden something surprised me and my breath was taken back!….
